All Hints & TipsWait just one minute! Before you stitch your design using the colors shown on your machine, double check the color file included with your design. Sometimes the machine will tell you a color that is completely different from the designer's 'recommended' color. My machine lists all shades of a color as the same color, not good if I want a 'shaded look' or highlights in my design. If you WANT to stitch it that way that is great but if you want it to look 'like the picture' double check the color sheet before you hit the start button.

Keep a notebook with files for your favorite digitizers. List the digitizer's name, website, and contact information on the top of the first page. Make a page listing designs you've already purchased and a separate list of designs for your 'wish list'. Then when your favorite designer is having a sale, you'll know what you already have and what you've had your eye on!

If you are having trouble loading a design into your machine it could be something as simple as re-naming the design. Sometimes the name is too long or includes extra periods which can confuse your machine. Before moving the design to the machine, right click on it and choose 'rename' and change it to something shorter or without extra punctuation marks and see if that resolves the problem.

If you're software or machine have 'auto' updates you should still verify that they have been installed. You can check this by looking under the 'Help' tab and then choosing 'About'. Most programs will list the most recent update number as the 'version'.

Make sure all your embroidery software is up-to-date. Periodically
visit the manufacturer's website and check to see if they have released
any patches or updates. This includes your machine too!

If you're having stitchout problems with a
particular design, it could be a number of things but one that is
often overlooked is old thread or just a bad spool. Try using a new spool or a
just a different color and see if it makes a difference.

When changing needles, place a piece of fabric or paper over the needle plate to catch the needle or screw should you drop them. It sure beats trying to fish them out of the machine! ;-) Hint By: Krisann
We all know we are supposed to back up our designs on a regular basis but don't assume that the back up was successful - ALWAYS verify it. Open a few folders and files on the backup and make sure they are not corrupt or missing.

When you get a great tip or piece of embroidery advice write it down. Keep a notebook or list of your favorite tips so you will be able to refer back to them when you actually need to use them. If you have a computer program such as Excel or something similar you can store them on the computer and then have the ability to search for tips based on a keyword.

Do NOT resize FSL (free standing lace) designs. These items are carefully digitized to hold together properly once stitched out. Resizing could cause your item to fall apart. If you need it resized, contact the digitizer to see if they can resize it for you.
